There are some big numbers kicking around in the background of Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials: 400+ rooms, 20+ hours of gameplay, 10+ bosses, 60+ minutes of music and some 30,000 words of text. And the best thing about it? All that can now be taken in on Xbox and PlayStation.
Previously available on PC and Nintendo Switch, Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials makes the move to Xbox and PlayStation, native to Xbox One but playable on Xbox Series X|S should that be your bag. There’s also Xbox Play Anywhere support too, so if you wish to kick off your Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials adventure on Xbox, and then move over to PC to continue it, you can.
It runs at a price of £16.74 and is best summed up as being a rather snarky little action-adventure puzzle affair, one that just so happens to come with a huge amount of humour dropped in too. But we say ‘little’, yet honestly this is looking like being an adventure that belies it’s low price point, with those huge numbers mentioned at the top of this piece likely to keep Xbox and PlayStation folk gaming into the wee hours.
It tells the tale of a barbarian (you’ll get to choose from a couple, actually) as they head down into the depths of a darkened dungeon, left to battle through as best you can. Thankfully though you’ll have your best mate coming along for the ride – a little magical bat named Pip – who will happily light up the path ahead, help you solve puzzles and ensure advancement through the depths.
With a whole cast of characters ready to meet and greet (remember, 30,000 words to chat through), some mini-games to enjoy and multiple endings in place that are dictated by your choices and actions, and Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials looks to have plenty about it.
In fact, it’s got tons about it, with the key features alone stretching to this little lot…
- Gain new skills for your barbarian and elemental powers for Pip, the (magic) bat!
- A narrative-driven metroidvania with dialogue choices and plenty of humor and snark.
- Big numbers! 400+ rooms, 20+ hours of evolving gameplay, 10+ bosses, 60+ minutes of music and almost 30,000 words of text that a barbarian would never bother to read!
- Puzzles.
- RPG elements with a level-up minigame.
- Contains more fruit throwing than probably any other game.
- Companions that join you in your quest and help you out in fights.
- Multiple endings based on your choices and actions.
- The thrown fruit are NOT wasted, they are eaten by the bat (who is magic).
- A ton of secrets and hidden loot just about everywhere.
- The (magic) bat has a whopping FIVE different squeaking sounds!
- Fewer repetitive jokes than this description has.
