Borderlands was massive. Borderlands 2 was bigger. But with Borderlands 3, Gearbox Software raised the bar once more. Today though they are picking up that bar and throwing it out the window with the arrival of the Borderlands 3: Directors Cut and no less than four further DLC packs focusing on the Multiverse Disciples.
Admittedly Borderlands 3 didn’t quite rich the heights of the two games that preceded it when it launched back in 2019, but since that time you can’t fault those behind it for pushing out a host of brilliant content. That’s what we’re dealing with again now with the arrival of the Director’s Cut, the Disciples of the Vault cosmetic packs and the addition of some brand spanking new Loot Machines. And honestly, we love Borderlands just for the loot!
It’s the Director’s Cut which we’ll focus on first and with this you’ll find yourself going up against a new colossal Varkid raid boss – Hemovorous the Invincible. Further to that is an interplanetary murder mystery which needs solving along with the first of three new Vault Cards. Complete the challenges found on these and you’ll unlock some snazzy new rewards – unique Legendary gear, a host of cosmetic options and some Diamond Keys; the new in-game resource that everyone will be clamouring after.
That’s not all though and the Director’s Cut of Borderlands 3 also includes some behind-the-scenes content, with concept art, deleted scenes, pre-release bugs and more all thrown in.
You’ll find that the Borderlands 3: Director’s Cut will set you back £11.99, whilst you’ll obviously need the base game in place in order to play it. Features of it will include:
- • Go toe-to-pincer with Hemovorous the Invincible, a gargantuan Varkid raid boss who drops some of the best loot in the game (provided you can actually kill her)
- • Visit new locations on multiple planets to investigate a series of seemingly paranormal murders and help Ava launch her Mysteriouslier podcast
- • Enjoy a collection of behind-the-scenes content from Borderlands 3’s development, including concept art, storyboards, clips, and more
- • Work your way through three Vault Cards featuring themed loot and powerful gear! Collect tons of added cosmetics, including new Vault Hunter Heads and Skins, weapon skins and trinkets, lively emotes, ECHO Device skins, and room decorations to display proudly aboard Sanctuary III
But then we also have the four new Multiverse Disciples of the Vault. Each of these comes in at £7.99 and will allow you to express your love for Zane the Operator, Moze the Gunner, FL4K the Beastmaster and Amara the Siren – or at least express your love for what they would be like if they had become bandits and joined the Children of the Vault.
Whilst these may seem a tad high in cost for something that is just cosmetic, each character-specific pack includes a one-of-a-kind Vault Hunter body and matching head, which you can mix and match with any other customization options you have in your collection. If that’s your bag, fill your boots with each of the options. Just hit the links above and be whisked to the relevant Xbox Store page. Obviously you’ll also find these packs available on PS4, PS5, Google Stadia and PC too.
Finally, these new additions are accompanied by two new machines which have been added to the base game. Crazy Earl’s Reroll and Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine come in for free to all players, with Crazy Earl’s Reroll replacing the existing Anointment on a specified item in exchange for some Eridium. Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine offers top-tier Legendary loot and will be hidden in a new location within the base game each week. It’ll be up to the Borderlands community to track it down and see what he’s got.
If you’re been looking for a reason to head back to Borderlands 3 and get involved with the plethora of loot and wealth of weapons that are in place, then the arrival of these new options will certainly make the drop all the sweeter. Give the old trailer a watch too and then let us know what you think of the latest content to hit the game.
Director’s Cut Description:
Borderlands 3 gets even bigger with the Director’s Cut add-on, featuring a raid boss encounter, additional story missions, behind-the-scenes extras, and three sets of themed collectibles! Test your mettle against the most fearsome of all Varkids. Her name has long been whispered in blood-soaked legend; now Hemovorous the Invincible has awoken. This colossal raid boss has made her lair on Pandora, and only the fiercest big game hunters have a chance of kicking her chitinous butt in the pursuit of top-tier loot. Better bring some friends to this fight and be ready to get caked in Varkid guts—it’s going to get messy! Meanwhile, Ava is convinced she has a lead on some potentially supernatural slayings and has decided to document her findings in serialized podcast form. Consider yourself her gun-toting co-host as you investigate strange happenings on Pandora, Promethea, Eden-6, and Nekrotafeyo in search of answers (and loot) with the help of some familiar faces. In the Director’s Cut, Vault Hunters can scour the galaxy to solve a string of murders, score loot with three new Vault Cards, and enjoy never-before-seen insights into the development of Borderlands 3. You can also peruse Borderlands 3’s beginnings, bloopers, and cut content with a compilation of behind-the-scenes selections. And that’s not all! You can also explore a gallery full of concept art, storyboards, lost maps, and footage of Borderlands 3 from throughout its development. Included in the Director’s Cut are three Vault Cards, which are your ticket to upcoming bundles of themed loot! Once the Vault Cards are released, they can be activated and leveled up to unlock a bevy of cosmetics plus some supremely powerful gear. The first Vault Card will debut with the launch of Director’s Cut, featuring items that honor some of Borderlands’ most beloved fallen heroes. When multiple Vault Cards are available, you’ll have the option to select which one you want to be active. This content requires Borderlands 3 to play and is included in Season Pass 2. The first of the three Vault Cards included in Director’s Cut is now available, with the remaining two scheduled to launch by the end of 2021.
