Earlier this year, on April 15th, a remaster of Square Enix‘s SaGa Frontier released on mobile devices, PC, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game had originally released on the Playstation 1 in Japan in 1997, followed by a North American launch in 1998. Square Enix’s remaster of the game is obviously more available on platforms than the original, and according to the company, sales are doing well.
RPG Site spoke to SaGa series creator Akitoshi Kawazu, as well as SaGa producers Masanori Ichikawa and Hiroyuki Miura. Miura says that “one thing that was especially unexpected was the number of Steam sales, which have been more than what we had forecasted, and there are more Steam players than we had anticipated. When comparing across the board, though, the Switch version has produced the most sales, which were a lot higher than what we had predicted”.
With this sales success, there has been some speculation on some more remasters of games from the series. When asked about this, Kawazu only said that “there are probably titles that we will need to really look into revamping the content before they can be re-released, such as Unlimited SaGa”.
