Look, we get it, Bowser’s latest appearance in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is almost as cool as Luigi’s new lederhosen outfit, but we’re here to set the record straight on some misinformation that’s been flooding social media.
On the day Nintendo launched its recent Bowser’s Fury trailer, showing off a giant, genuinely scary Bowser who seemed intent on burning Mario and his own son to a crisp, mumblings surrounding this new Bowser form’s name started to circulate. It’s hard to pinpoint where it all started, but one thing led to another, and suddenly popular Twitter accounts started to share the ‘fact’ that in Japan, this new Bowser was officially called ‘God Slayer Bowser’.
As it happens, despite many assuming these tweets to be true, the name has never been mentioned by Nintendo to the best of our knowledge and appears to either be a mistranslation or a full-on hoax. It does sound pretty awesome, we’ll admit, but we find it highly unlikely that Nintendo would ever adopt such a phrase for one of its characters.
For the record, in all communication we’ve received from Nintendo, the new Bowser form is simply referred to as ‘Fury Bowser’, and this appears to be correct for the Japanese version, too.
Either way, Fury Bowser still looks pretty smokin‘. In more ways than one.
