It seems like an age since we first heard of Killer Queen Black back in March 2019, and the initial idea to launch in Q4 2019 has long but passed. But there’s good news – Killer Queen Black will be launching on Xbox in January, and it’ll be found dropping into Xbox Game Pass for good measure.
Coming from the teams at Liquid Bit and BumbleBear Games, Killer Queen Black is a new strategic eight-player arcade action platformer that has been inspired by the tight mechanics of the retro scene, all whilst dropping in a bit of tactical teamplay.
Anyways, January 5th 2021 is the date you should be sticking in your diary, for it is then when we’ll see Killer Queen Black drop onto Xbox, with launch through Xbox Game Pass. And once you get involved, you’ll find that success in Killer Queen Black will only come about via teams of four – teams that consist of one Queen and three Workers. The formidable Queen can fly and attack with a stinger sword from the outset, and she can tag power-up gates on the field to give her team a leg up.
That doesn’t mean you won’t want to be a Worker though, for these guys excel in adaptability, making them essential to victory. Run to collect berries to fill the team hive or spend a berry on a power-up gate to gain speed boosts and transform into Soldiers. Wield Swords, Laser Rifles, Morning Stars, and more to destroy opposing Workers or face the Queen herself. Combine speed boosts with weapons to become Speed Soldiers capable of giving the Queen a run for her money.
Killer Queen Black will come to Xbox with seven single-screen maps in place, allowing all characters and strategies to be visible at all times. By cooperating and coordinating to conquer the opposing team’s hive, you’ll find that three victory types become available: Economic, Military, and Snail. This will see you wanting to fill the team’s hive with berries to secure an Economic victory, slowly ride a snail to the team’s goal to earn a Snail Victory, or work with the simplest plans and just go all-in to take out the other Queen three times to lock down a Military victory.
Beyond fast reflexes and keen tactics, Killer Queen Black encourages communication. Gather friends locally or on Xbox Live to form two teams of four. Play in private matches with friends only or join matchmaking to test those Queen skills around the world.
“We’re happy to bring Killer Queen Black to Xbox Game Pass and expand our community even further, thanks to cross-platform support,” said Matt Tesch, co-founder of Liquid Bit. “Our game’s arcade-inspired nature thrives when new players get to learn the ins and outs of everything, from how to fly like a champ to how to pull off sneaky Snail Victories.”
We’ll be sure to remind you when January 5th 2021 rolls into play and we find Killer Queen Black appear on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass. Until that time though, the trailer below will keep you busy…
